Abstract

In this panel, speakers will discuss a range of issues related to the evolution of theoretical frameworks employed in information research. It is in the view of this panel that there is a need for a paradigm shift, one that shakes the foundation of traditional information research. The new paradigm takes into account emergent information reality featuring ubiquitous access, contextual embeddedness, misinformation and its politicization, social justice and community outcomes, among others. Panelists will examine the history of information paradigms, explore the social responsibility of researchers, articulate actualities and potentialities of impact-driven shifts, outline community-based participatory research strategies, and discuss methodological innovations that advance information research. This panel calls for attention to a forthcoming special issue for JASIS&T which aims to open a forum for reconceptualization of the information field. It is hoped that this session will engage the audience and spark interest of potential contributors to this special issue.
