Abstract
This report provides details from the evaluation of the allied health component of the Greater Western Area Health Service Pathways Home Project (PHP). The key aim of the PHP was to provide time limited orthopaedic rehabilitation to clients following total hip replacement and total knee replacement surgery. To this end the project was funded to support a range of items associated with enhancing the service capability of smaller sites to which clients could be referred. In the PHP Coonabarabran and Wellington District Health Services were funded to enable them to receive rehabilitation clients from Dubbo Hospital, Greater Western Areas Health Service (GWAHS) and Lourdes Hospital, Catholic Health Care, Dubbo. Funding supported:¢ Recruitment of additional allied health staff to be located in Coonabarabranand Wellington District Health Services;¢ Education about rehabilitation practice for nursing staff;¢ Purchase of rehabilitation equipment (such as beds and lifters); and¢ Modification of living areas and bathrooms within the hospital rehabilitation environment.The focus of this report is on the involvement of allied health staff.
