Performance enhancement by segregation and hybrid integration in general queueing networks

Abstract

This paper discusses performance enhancement in G/G/l queuing systems by segregating traffic flows with disparate characteristics into separate channels. It also presents a hybrid integration approach to lower the mean packet delay. We formulate a procedure for determining the optimal hybrid arrangement using an approximate analytical model for calculating the mean packet delay in G/G/l queues. We apply our findings to different interarrivai and service time distributions, namely, the lognormal and the Pareto distributions. We validate our analytical results with simulations.
