Photoelectron spectroscopy of (thio)carbonyl compounds

The electronic structures of an unsaturated amide, thioamide and dithionoester have been studied in the gas phase by HeI photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. The comparison of measured spectra with the spectra of related compounds reveals the effects of intramolecular interactions in these molecules. The electronic structures deduced from the spectra are then related to some of their chemical properties.
