Abstract

Recent changes to welfare policies relating to disability income support and employment are likely to have a significant impact on the employment prospects of people experiencing psychiatric disabilities in Australia. This report examines recent policies, in the light of the vocational needs of those with psychiatric disabilities who seek to gain employment. The article argues that barriers created by policies, rather than by the limitations imposed by their disabilities, may well limit the number of people with psychiatric disabilities who can be supported to gain employment.
