Three weeks into the academic year, and covid19 enforced a CSU shutdown. Subject delivery had to continue, and zoom became the buzz word for on-line didactic teaching. Practical activities are an integral part of the veterinary course, which in the in the introductory theriogenology subject, are mainly demonstrations of reproductive practical procedures. Videos were used to augment the deficiency of real-time practical participation, but in order to retain authenticity and student engagement we decided to live stream the practical sessions to the students’. The risks were high, but with some skill and luck, the outcome of the practical zoom sessions using mobile phone technology resulted in the ratification of the process by the curriculum committee. And, probably as importantly, student appreciation is summarised by an SES posting: ‘I also thought the zoom pracs worked reasonably well- they were short and to the point and I could see everything clearly. ‘
