Abstract

In this, the first of three papers, attention is drawn to the literature for one year, reflecting a sample of the interrelated themes of ageing, spirituality and nursing. It is clear that nurses are unsure how to include this component of care in their daily practice. However, with the rapidly increasing ageing population, and the recent escalation of literature of spirituality, it seems timely to analyse some of these findings and to consider the implications for practice. Some of the major emerging themes have been identified in this paper, with a view to further exploration of the themes in the second paper, and expanding the discussion in the third paper.
