Abstract
Many students, parents and teachers are troubled by the emergence of the knowledge economy. There are also politicians who are concerrned that the ideological project of neo-liberal globalism poses challenges for the maintenance of democracy within nation-states, let alone its deepening and extension into trans-national spheres of governance.
