    Abstract

The paper explores the varied implications of cure, healing, and recovery from substance use and considers why recovery is the preferred characterization in relation to a medicalized drug dependency. The positive as well as negative associations of recovery are noted, and the ethical implications of the primarily processual dimensions of recovery are investigated.
