Abstract

Despite calls in the literature, usage of formative measurement models remains scarce. The current research addresses the call by testing a second-order model of relationship quality using two measurement perspectives, viz., a higher-order fully reflective model versus a first-order reflective second-order formative model. The models are estimated on a sample of 504 consumers of telecom services. The second-order formative model outperforms the fully reflective model in terms of model fit, and variance explained in outcome variables. Overall, the study presents a valid argument for its adoption by researchers and practitioners.
