Abstract
This article describes a model for school-based research that enables an individual school to use its existing data sets. These data sets can be used to develop an index that represents characteristics of the school community that impact on the teaching and learning processes in the school. An analysis of the existing database of a school provides indicators that can be used to target areas of student need.
