This article provides an overview of the research and professional literature about ways in which student learning is enhanced through school libraries. The article supports teaching partnerships and suggests that a common vision is essential as we move into the future. It outlines how a capacity building approach can be used to achieve this goal, and suggests a capacity building model schools can use to develop a program of continuous improvement and sustainability for their school library.
