Abstract
This chapter deals with the position of contextual theology within the discourse of protestant theology in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It looks at the interaction of contextual issues in protestant theology with the cultural dynamics and categories of the cultures of Eastern Indonesia. It concludes that the expressions of Christianity, particularly within protestanism, as found in Eastern Indonesia, follow patterns first seen in the debates leading up to Nicaea and Chalcedon.
