Abstract
Throughout the 1960s, the Shree Gurudev Ashram attracted many Indian and a growing number of Western devotees. It was not, however, until 1970 that Swami Muktananda’s Siddha Yoga was introduced to the West as part of his first ventures outside of India (Thursby 1991; White 1974). Numerous Indian gurus at this time had travelled to the West and had gained large followings.
