Abstract

This paper is an introductory essay mapping the collective work of a group of scholars who collaborated in a special Symposium in November 2021 entitled Situating Emotion in Digital Culture. It is grouped around 8 topics or themes and provides a comprehensive guide to thoughts and research related to emotion and its complex placement and application in online and social media structures. Ultimately, this article links this work to formations of identity, sentiment, affect, affective atmospheres, artificial (emotional) intelligence and the active technological interface and algorithms which shape meaning and its application in our digitally configured contemporary world.
