Smoke inhalation as a primary cause of death in house fires - statistics relating to death in residential fires - types of smoke alarms - current Australian state and territory legislation relating to smoke alarms - argument that smoke alarm installation should become a federal issue because of inconsistencies in state and territory legislation - case study of investigation into smoke alarm failure.
