Abstract

The term “social protection transfers” refers to regular, dependable, and direct transfers of money and/or goods to families living in poverty or distress. Individuals and households are protected and prevented from being affected by shocks through predictable direct transfers to them, which can be in-kind or in cash, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF 2017). Social transfers also support the accumulation of human, productive, and financial assets (UNICEF 2017). The fundamental goal of social transfers is to alleviate poverty and social and economic exclusion.
