High-resolution He I and He II photoelectron spectra of four mixed trihalobenzenes C6H3FXY (X, Y = Cl, Br, I) were recorded. Their electronic structure is discussed with special emphasis on the heavy halogen-aromatic ring interactions. The orbital interactions in the title compounds are more pronounced than those in the compounds of the type C6H4X2 (X = Br, I), because of the lower symmetry of the former.
