Abstract

The latest digital video codiag standard AVCN.264introduced tree structured variable-block size (from16x16 to 4x4) motion estimation and compensation toapproximate the shape of the moving objects within thenlacroblock more accurately. "lie choice of different sizeblocks is varied as target bit rate varied. In this paper weinvestigate the changes of different block size for varioustarget bit rates. Esperimental results show that relativelylarger blocks are selected at very low bit rate and smallerblocks are selected at hgher bit rate. We also conchdedthat in the context of very low bit rate video coding, pattern based video coding using pattern templaterepresentations of moving objects in block-based motionestimation and compensation exhibits the superior resultcompare to H.264 standard.
