Abstract
Genome wide association study (GWAS) was performed in 720 Nellore bulls and steers for dry matter intake (DMI), average daily gain (ADG), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and residual feed intake (RFI), using GRAMMAR-Gamma association test. Genes within 50kb flanking regions of SNPs with the highest association with the phenotypes were extracted, and pathway analysis was performed on the KEGG and DAVID databases. Several genomic regions that were significantly associated with phenotypes (p=9.27×10-5) were identified by GWAS. Near these regions, many genes were found for the four phenotypes studied (e.g. ARG2, ATP8A1, KCNJ, PLAG2G7 and ZNF746). The analysis identified three main metabolic pathways that influence the four phenotypes concomitantly. These processes are mainly related to ion transport (aldosterone-regulated sodium reabsorption), body composition (T cell receptor signaling pathway) and control of feed intake (proteoglycans).

Other | The joint US-Canada organizing committee is proud to welcome you to the 10th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production (WCGALP) being held from 17 – 22 August 2014 at the Westin Bayshore Conference Center situated on the bay in the gorgeous city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This congress is the premier conference for researchers and professionals involved in genetic improvement of livestock. Delegates from around the world gather every four years to attend the scientific program and network with colleagues. This 10th WGCALP builds from previous successful congresses in Madrid (1974 and 1982), Lincoln (USA, 1986), Edinburgh (UK, 1990), Guelph (Canada, 1994), Armidale (Australia, 1998), Montpellier (France, 2002), Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2006) and Leipzig (Germany, 2010). |
