Abstract
Two examples of army medics, from Australian history, are contrasted. They are both men who served in overseas conflicts, and have been a presence in public memorialising of war. The first, Simpson of Gallipoli, is a celebrated hero of World War One. The second, Dusty Miller, is a person who has spoken against war crimes, allegedly committed by Australian Defence Force members in the war in Afghanistan 2001-2021.
