Abstract
Set and costume design for an original adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado by well-known scriptwriter and director Melvyn Morrow. This production was called The Big Makado and was a musical with over ninety performers. The design challenge: how to add to the dark underlying points of the story visually whilst maintaining a respectable image for the audience. The designs sought a solution which engaged the audience in the essence of the script through emotions via the visual details.
