Abstract
This paper describes the development of an instrument designed to assess the interestthat middle school students (years 7 to 9) have towards statistical literacy. In particularthe paper presents a theoretical framework for interest in statistical literacy which issubsequently used as the basis for item development. Initial pilot results that areanalysed using a Rasch measurement perspective are then presented.
