Abstract

The 1969 moon landing was a triumphant moment of the 20th century. It realised young President Kennedy’s 1961 declaration that within the decade humans would land upon the moon and then return safely to earth. It was also a globally televised achievement, people across the world witnessing Neil Armstrong’s first-ever lunar walk. Much like the impact of Kennedy’s assassination six-years earlier, individual and collective memory oscillates around this event. It is one of the most lauded achievements of humanity to date.
