Abstract

This article is a reflection on the author's supervisory experience. It argues that the pastoral supervisor has an educative role, but one that is very different from the common image of the teacher or lecturer. The image of the door is used as a metaphor in exploring elements of the supervisory process that enable or block supervisee learning. The paper concludes with a theological reflection based on three New Testament passages that use the door as an analogy.
