Abstract

In 1940 the Institute published an edited compilation of New Testament writings titled Die Botschaft Gottes, which was intended to serve as the official Bible translation in Hitler’s Reich. Buesnel argues that Die Botschaft Gottes may be interpreted as a work of (negative) contextual theology. He suggests that theologians employing the contextual method should remain cognizant of a priori ethical and theological assumptions that inform their contextual judgements.
