Abstract
At the outset of 'Reclaiming Proportionality', Arthur Ripstein says that his 'aim ... is to reclaim the idea of proportionality for a rights-based theory of interpersonal morality and law.' In responding to his article, it will be helpful explicitly to distinguish between the idea of proportionality on the one hand, and a proportionality constraint on the other.
