Abstract

World premiere of original stage play at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre, Bathurst, NSW, 24-26 February, 2011. This work combined traditional theatre scenes but incorporated contemporary digital representations of journalistic practice. The play's action revolved around a fictional commercial current affairs program production office. The digital representations were examples of TV product pertinent to the play's storytelling - including a fictional news-current affairs TV story package, a fictional current affairs program "promo", a reporter "live cross", a "foot-in-the-door" reporter "goof" reel, a presenter introduction to an expose on a fictional news critique program "Media Eye" and live skype-ing of characters onto screens as part of the play's action. The author wrote all the scripts including the stage script, the goof reel, the TV news story, the Media Eye intro, the promo, and the live cross and also wrote shooting scripts for production of the digital elements. The theatre production was a collaborative process as indicated on the production program. Throughout the production process the author was available as consultant to the theatre director and assisted as consultant on site for shooting and production of the digital elements by multi-media producer.
