Abstract
The Egyptian revival of khayal al-zill (Arabic shadow theatre, or "theatre of the imagination") tends to focus on art historian's research regarding the surviving puppets, their literary context, and what is known of their scripts. But what might the revival of shadow theatre resemble when the performance takes place in regional Australia?
This major creative practice research project reviews the contemporary applications of khayal al-zill to re-tell the Aladdin story, simultaneously re-interpreted as the Faustian legend, as a unique shadow theatre concert.
