Abstract

Background. South Africa has eleven official languages, yet speech acquisition in this context of rich linguistic diversity has not been well-researched. Studies have detailed development of is iXhosa phonology, but little work has focused on the typical acquisition of multiple languages in this context, and speech development in young children acquiring South African English has yet to be detailed.
