Abstract
No abstract. The article is about Totaram Sanadhya and the issue of indenture as it haunts the Fijian present. Apart from Totaram's work, the works of Subramani, Sudesh Mishra, and Mohit Prasad are analysed to see how the past haunts the present, and how writers of the present need both to summon and to exorcise its spectres. The work of Jacques Derrida is used to suggest the way this aperture might operate.
