"Understanding the world”: How Australian teacher librarians define information literacy

Research output: Other contribution to conferencePresentation only

Abstract

• As the information landscape is ever-changing and unpredictable, teacher librarians (TLs) must equip youth with tools for information literacy. The purpose of this exploratory research is to understand how Australian TLs working in high schools define information literacy and how those understandings impact their teaching and learning practice. Using a phenomenological approach, the first stage of this research included an online survey with 150 respondents. Preliminary findings indicate deep and diverse understandings around information literacy. This research will highlight the value of the TL role in supporting students to be connected and informed, able to navigate complex information environments.
