Abstract

We all know that we need to ensure our clinical reasoning is based on evidence. This evidence includes both research-based evidence and practice-based evidence. To find this practice-based evidence, speech pathologists are increasingly connecting with each other to ask questions to strengthen their professional practice. This need - to reach out to a collective group of professionals - often happens online, through platforms like SPA’s Member Hub. But rarely do you get an opportunity to really delve into issues in a deeper way and ask the questions you really want to ask.
This Q&A panel discussion is all about speech sound disorders. The dynamic nature of this panel allows you to ask all your SSD questions. The panel will include leading Australian researchers and experienced practicing speech pathologists who have a special interest in speech sound disorders. The session will provide a supportive and collaborative place where you can ask questions and gain a broader perspective of the evidence, professional practice, and ethics to inform your own practice.
The 90-minute Q&A session will cover the clinical reasoning process from assessment and differential diagnosis to intervention. Before the session, submission of questions will be invited, and the session facilitators will collate and condense your questions and ask the panel to respond. Participants will also be invited to ask on the spot open questions, or directly ask a particular panellist a question.
The Q&A panel discussion will be engaging and enlightening and allow you to reflect and consider how you respond to the needs of children with SSD. It will give you an opportunity to hear different viewpoints from people in the field and provide a unique setting at the conference to collaborate and engage with the wider SLP community. The session will be helpful for anyone who is interested in SSD – from students to experienced SLPs.
